Profile Picture Julia Jenkins Counsellor

I am Julia.

Are you are looking for a space where you feel safe enough to just stop, breathe and begin to look at all that is overwhelming you?  I work in a range of ways and will tailor the sessions to suit your needs and support you while you begin to explore your problems or issues.  We can work face to face, online or on the telephone.

I have experience of working with people with a wide range of concerns including loss, bereavement, the pressure of caring, mother daughter issues, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, general growth and personal development.

I have a particular interest in working with people who have been to Boarding School and how these early experiences may have affected them in their adult life.

I am also interested in stammering.  I am not a speech therapist, I am not qualified to help you work directly with your communication and fluency but in exploring the feelings associated with stammering such as fear and anxiety.  I occasionally stammer myself and have used my daily mindfulness practice to turn my stammering into a positive self-care tool and gain a deeper understanding of how I tick.

I can support you in exploring the connection between your mind, body and emotions. We will work together to consciously and gently explore and uncover your true feelings so you can tune into yourself, nature and the world around you with gratitude and respect.

Abstract Painting

I have undertaken training with Cruse Bereavement Care, Introductory and Advanced Teacher trainings with Breathworks Mindfulness and training in Psycho-spiritual and Therapeutic Shamanism with Christa MacKinnon.

I am a Certified Cyber Therapist and trained with the Online Therapy Institute, who provide a high level of training for counsellors and psychotherapists working online.

My way of working has been developed and influenced by many different therapeutic approaches, ways of thinking and my life experiences.  I have a previous 20 year plus history of working with the body, as a physical therapist and have a strong interest in awareness, mindfulness, of how the body, mind and spirit are, or are not, feeling.  We hold many emotions and traumas in our body and this can be reflected in our emotional and physical health.

The training I have taken around Therapeutic Shamanism in Counselling Therapy sits closely with my own professional and personal set of values.  I do not claim to be a Shaman, I identify as a trained and informed counsellor: the teachings I have received are structured for integration into “conventional” counselling and psychotherapy.  Therapeutic Shamanism can offer clients an illuminating and creative way to align with the power of nature and support them to reconnect to lost parts of themselves, offer some clarity on specific issues and simply be incorporated into ongoing therapeutic work.

I have worked as an Adult Learning Tutor, for MIND teaching Mindfulness  and with Watford Women’s Centre as a Counsellor.  I have delivered Mindfulness, Meditation and Relaxation related training courses at the Women’s Centre and for Herts Carers.  I have worked supporting Carers at Watford Memory Cafe, run by the Watford and Three Rivers Trust.

I am fully insured and committed to a regular programme of Continuing Professional Development and monthly Clinical Supervision.
